COMMUNALISM
In human history, society has
developed and progressed from communalism to feudalism, capitalism, socialism
and communism.
Communalism is the first most
primitive and the simplest mode of production. In this system of
government/mode of production the land and what is produced from the land belongs
to all the members of the society/community and are equitably distributed or
shared.
Features/ Characteristics of
Communalism:
(i) The land or means of production and
distribution are owned and controlled by the community
(ii) What is produced belong to the community
(everyone)
(iii) Production is at subsistence level
(iv) The society is classless
(v) The means of exchange is by barter
(vi) Equitable distribution of goods and
services among the members of the community
